Oil on canvas, signed Guy Wiggins (lower right); reverse also bears inscriptions in black ink reading: Fifth Ave, N.Y. ”Midtown” Guy Wiggins, the canvas stamped in black “Chenil, by the town hall, Chelsea”. 

Note: Painting in the impressionist style, Guy Wiggins is best known for his scenes of New York City in winter. He also ventured into the country painting scenes of fields, woodlands and streams in various seasons. He was the youngest member of the Old Lyme Art Colony, painting with notorious artists like Childe Hassam, Frank Vincent DuMond and his father Carleton. Wiggins also served as president of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts and was a member of the National Academy of Design. His paintings are in numerous museums throughout the country including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Art Institute of Chicago and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
