Zoomorphic Kifwebe Mask, Luba People, Manono Region (?), D. R. of Congo

Kaolin-covered zoomorphic eastern-Luba kifwebe mask bearing feline features: perked ears, snout and projecting pink tongue.

Black pigment outlines the mask’s eyes, gives shape to the snout and nose, and renders whiskers while pink colors the insides of the ears and tongue.

Animal forms are thought to come from the Manono or Kiambi regions.

Presented on custom base.
