Lot #054

Group of Three American Folk Art Whimsies

Group of three American folk art whimsies with carved animals and figures from a cache discovered in southeastern Massachusetts and presumably made by the same person. Each is overpainted in “radiator” gold but bear evidence of earlier colors beneath (red and/or silver, mostly). Metal stamps were used to mark the sides of more complex examples identifying “PIG,” “C”hicken, etc.

The most complex example of this group has a faint inscription on its underside: “Jan X, 1900.”
